Horrible Histories - Barmy Britain Description

Have you ever wondered why the Romans never won MasterChef? Would you lose your heart or head to horrible Henry? Will Parliament escape gunpowder Guy? Enrol yourself at Georgian Crime School, dare to dance the Tyburn jig and find out what a baby farmer did!

Set in loathsome London, the BSC proudly present the world premiere of BARMY BRITAIN.

Don't miss this history of Britain with the nasty bits left in!

Based on the children's book series and the popular BAFTA-winning TV show of the same name, Horrible Histories brings history to life on the stage for the younger generation. Perfect for families or as a school trip, the kids will learn plenty about British history - but they certainly won't be bored!

A great step back in time!

I was sure what to expect, but it was a really great show, and the actors were brilliant! A fantastic way for children to enjoy learning about history!

Amanda

Awesome performance by two talented actors, funny, serious and educational.

Jolly good theatre experience

HH is always a great theatre experience and Barmy Britain is no exception. Beautifully written, cleverly performed, fast paced, fun and yet educational. My one criticism? It would have been better to have a slightly longer show, performed across 2 parts.

Heather

Barmy British

What an amazing show, my two children (aged 5 and 7) came home and spent the next day acting out their own version of the show. As an adult I learnt a few "facts" too!!

Jo

Fun hour spent in London

This show was shorter than I expected, although lots of fun. I even learned a few things along with the children!

Sue

excellent entertainment

claire

Barmey Britain!

An excellent show with the only dissappointment being the running time. It was was only just 1hour and as the children were so engaged we would have loved it to continue a little longer.

Nicola

Show ok for young children, probably best for 5 to 8 year olds. It was short (no interval) and lasted just over the hour. The 5 and 7 year olds I took liked it. As an adult I thought it could have been better.

Freda

worth the early start

Traveling into London for the 10.30 start was worth it- I thought I would suffer it for the other members of the family - but we all laughed out loud captivated by the talented duo that held the audience throughout . good start to a busy day in the Capital

Christine

Suitable for children

I and my grandchildren were disappointed at only two actors. I had expected there to be sketches of events in history not two actors frantically changing clothes non stop from the props basket. At 11 and 12 they still enjoyed it but were not thrilled. I found it amateurish and over the top. With the price of the ticket for only an hour it was expensive for what it was.

Julie

horrible histories barmy britain

we had been to see the HH Vile Victorians earlier in the year and this was really much the same with some of the same content in it, I thought it would have had more content to it, this show is ideal for children who have not seen any other HH show.

Stephanie

good educational show

I took my six year old and he thought it was "quite good". It was very educational although some of it was lost I think on my son and very cleverly presented with just two actors. I was glad it was only one hour with no interval. A good "theatre" experience for 6yr+ and adults will find it clever and amusing but don't expect a wow stars and lights show.

BP

Good but different from the tv show

When my children (6 and 8)saw that there were only two actors they immediately decided they hated it. On leaving the theatre they both declared that they had really enjoyed it and thought it was great! It took them about 10 minutes or so to get into the show but the actors were so good the kids soon took it on board for what it was - which was basically nothing which really resembles the tv programme. I would agree that it was short. The actors worked hard and I can understand why they could only do an hour. With a larger cast maybe it could have gone on a bit longer.

Amanda

Very good if anything just seemed a bit short but on the he whole great.

What a load of Rubbish Very disapointing

My 6 year old son loves the horrible histories tv series and yet this show was not at all connected in any shape or form to the tv show which we were not awd some are. 1 large whicker basket and some costumes and thats it. The Result is a very Upset 6 year old child on his first visit to london and the show was supppossed to be the highlight. I will be writing a formal complaint to the shows production company & will endeavour to retrieve a full refund. It was like a junior school pantomime. I would not wish to see anymore disapointed children. its a complete scam

Richard

Enjoyed the whole show, kept the children enthralled the whole time.

Elaine

Great value family fun - we were singing the songs the whole way home.

Steph

Thoroughly enjoyed Horrible Histories

Horrible Histories amazingly brilliantly funny!

I took my ten year old daughter thinking it could never be as good as the TV show and was wonderfully entertained for the entire show- we both laughed and laughed and came home singing the Barmy Britain song on the train - what a fantastic way to educate the children (and us adults!) whilst having lots of fun!

Ellie Sue

Horrible Histories

Loved the show but was disappointed that there were none of the TV cast involved - kids still loved it though x

Sue

Great fun at the Garrick

I went to Barmy Britain with my 5 year old granddaughter. We both adored the show - it works at all levels! Teenagers love the scatalogical bits, adults get the more sophisticated jokes, and for little ones it's all just good fun. My favourite bits were the Henry VIII rap and the Guy Fawkes Who Wants to be a Millionaire (loved the Phone a Friend when he calls Catesby! And maybe best of all,The Apprentice with General Haig being told You're Fired! Watching this show, children learn history without realising it's a lesson! I couldn't wait to buy the books in the foyer!

Dave

Theatre, TV or Books.

I took two of my grandchildren aged 9 and 11 and they said it was ok. I had never seen Horrible Histories on TV nor read the books and I thought it was 'laugh out loud'. They preferred the TV and books and I also heard another child on leaving say the same.

Janet

I really enjoyed the show, the acting was excellent and I wanted to stay a bit longer. I liked to sing along, and learn some interesting things in a funny way. Review from Yasmine 8yrs old. As my daughter, we had a really good hour of laughter, singing, sadness and joy passing by from one story to another. Great show, would recommend.
