Enjoy the magical tale of The Wizard of Oz
The Wonderful Wizard of Oz was originally a children's novel by L. Frank Baum, first published in 1900. The story was an immediate hit and has been reprinted countless times since then, renamed the The Wizard of Oz for the 1902 stage play and the famous 1939 film. It was so successful that Baum wrote thirteen more Oz books but, like the film, this popular stage show is based on Dorothy’s first and best-loved Oz adventure.
The Wizard of Oz – The story
The Wizard of Oz chronicles the strange, dreamlike adventures of Dorothy Gale. Swept to the Land of Oz from her Kansas home by a huge tornado, she finds herself hounded by the awful Wicked Witch of the West. Given a helping hand by Glinda the Good Witch, a cowardly lion, a talking scarecrow and a tin man, she soon realises there’s no place like home…
With songs from the delightful score of the Oscar winning film, which starred Judy Garland, the stage production also includes extra tunes by the masterful Andrew Lloyd Webber which give the story an extra edge. And the kids will adore Toto, Dorothy’s loyal little dog, who is played by four real life dogs called Topper, Bobby, Razzamatazz and Dazzle.
Obviously Judy Garland is a hard act to beat. But the stars of the show do a fantastic job and the story, which is faithful to the original book and film, will engross and entertain children of all ages, from five to a hundred and five!
The special effects are mind-blowing, especially the tornado scenes and the mysterious Emerald City, which display an impressive amount of technological input and expertise by the show’s creative team. Nominated for an Olivier award for the best musical revival in 2012, it’s a real show stopper that’ll have you dancing in your seats, carried along by one of the best loved fantasies of all time.
The Wizard of Oz songs
Adults and children alike adore the musical score, with classics like Nobody Understands Me, Over the Rainbow, The Wonders of the World, The Twister and the fantastic Munchkinland Sequence. You’ll probably already know the words to Follow the Yellow Brick Road, If I Only Had a Brain, We're Off to See the Wizard, If I Only Had a Heart and If I Only Had the Nerve. Twenty six fantastic tunes in total provide a musical backdrop to a storyline that has thrilled audiences for more than a hundred years.

A Wiz of a Show
I take my daughter, now 12, to see a show most school breaks and this one has just knocked The Lion King off the top slot! Everyone knows the story but there were still some (pleasant) surprises and we thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it - a must see!
