Fringe hit FLY, YOU FOOLS! to have London debut

Created by Recent Cutbacks, the team behind Hold on to Your Butts, Fly, You Fools! is a live, 60-minute, shot-for-shot parody of The Fellowship of the Ring, the first installment in the best-selling, critically acclaimed Lord of the Rings franchise. Four performers use physical comedy, live sound effects, character impersonations, mime, and theatre magic to recreate Tolkein's epic fantasy story. The London comes during the 25th anniversary year of the film release of The Fellowship of the Ring, and has been described as a celebration of fandom, film, and live theatre that will appeal to Tolkein devotees and newcomers alike.

Director, producer and co-founder of Recent Cutbacks, Kristin McCarthy Parker said: “We’ve been dreaming about bringing Fly, You Fools! to London for years, and I’m over the moon that it’s finally happening in the film’s 25th anniversary year."

The piece was originally performed by Nick Abeel, Kyle Schaefer and Matt Zambrano, it has Foley by Blair Busbee, acappella arrangements by Kelsey Didion, key art by Ligature Creative, lighting design by James Appleby and is directed by Kristin McCarthy Parker.

Fly, You Fools! will play at Southwark Playhouse Borough from Wednesday 25 November to Saturday 16 January 2027, with a press night on Friday 27 November. It will then head to Birmingham Rep for five performances.
