Enjoy Les Miserables, a moving tale of revolution

An astonishing fifty five million people have enjoyed Tony and Olivier Award winning Les Miserables so far, so you’ll be in good company. The show was named the nation’s favourite musical in a BBC poll, it’s one of the West End’s longest-running musicals and it has been thrilling audiences for a quarter of a century. That’s what we call popular!

If you’re new to Les Mis, as it’s affectionately called by fans, don’t be put off by the title. It’s dramatic and tense but there’s plenty of comic relief. Based on the popular Victor Hugo book, Les Miserables features music by Claude-Michel Schonberg, lyrics by Herbert Kretzmer, original text by Alain Boublil and extra material by James Fenton. Telling an epic story set against the dramatic backdrop of a country experiencing a bloody revolution, this superb adaptation thrills audiences and fills the theatre to bursting point every night.

Les Miserables - The story

Les Miserables weaves a dramatic, edge-of-your-seat tale of revolution and romance and has been entertaining audiences since its opening in Paris more than three decades ago. It tells the moving story of the rebellious but reformed character, Jean Valjean, a man who is tormented by a relentless police officer called Javert in 19th century Paris as the French revolution rages all around. It’s heart-breaking stuff, with romantic interest provided by the student Marius who falls deeply in love with Cosette. As Javert becomes ever more of a threat to the rebels, confrontations are inevitable. But love eventually triumphs despite everything...

‘The musical to end all musicals’

A surprising number of songs from Les Miserables have become hits in their own right, independent of the musical, and you’ll adore the show’s endless stream of beautiful ballads and moving anthems. The song Bring Him Home is a popular choice for funerals worldwide and songbird Susan Boyle has covered the tune I Dreamed a Dream to perfection. Empty Chairs at Empty Tables is absolutely heart-breaking, On My Own is guaranteed to bring tears to your eyes and Do You Hear the People Sing? is genuinely rousing and exhilarating stuff. Often labelled ‘The musical to end all musicals’, Les Miserables tickets are hot property and the production shows no signs of flagging in popularity as the decades roll by.

Must See Show

This may the best performance I've seen. Dean Chisnell may be better as Jean Vajean than Colm Wilkinson, who I saw a couple decades ago on Broadway. The one thing preventing a perfect score was that despite spending several hundred pounds per ticket, we were told we couldn't have a program with cast listing and bios without paying another 5 pounds in cash. We didn't have pounds, so we didn't buy one and thus didn't know who we were watching. Maybe this is common practice in London, but is not only unseemly, but street vendor tacky.

Wonderful account of the story

Absolutely fabulous show, and will go again to see it!

London Box Office customer

Classic!

Les Mis is a must-see. This classic should be number one on the bucket list of West End Shows to see. The story is classic with great themes of human strength, triumph over adversity. The story combines emotion with drama but also includes moments of humour, thanks to the landlord. The music is outstanding with many memorable songs. The staging is very cleverly worked and makes excellent use of a moving stage and lighting. The whole cast was outstanding, but special mention to a Dean Chisnall as a very strong Jean Valjean and Elane Skye as Eponine with a beautiful voice. The singing generally crisp and clear. This is really a fantastic production and everything you would expect of a great Musical production. It's no surprise that it has been running on West End for so many years.

Beautiful rendition of a classic

We watched Les Miserables on 26 December and were awed by this beautiful production. From the technicalities of the staging to the acting and music it was an amazing experience. We loved the show!

Ecstatic show

Seating could be better if everyone lean on their back instead of leaning forward. The row in front block our view or half a stage

Super

Final effusive applause burst into tears with our hearts smiling

Absolutely amazing piece of art. Jean Valjean actor: 5stars plus. Outstanding!!! We went in family (me, my husband, our daughters: 16 and 18 years-old). During the musical we went from tears to laugh out loud to tears back again. Never, ever, have I weeped in a musical before. Amazing!!! Great actors: Jean Valjean, Javert, Marius, Eponine, couple Thenardier Not as good: The leader of Les Amis... although a good-looking actor and with good voice, there was some missing corporal expression (maybe the actor was not in one of his better days, and if so, sorry for the critic) AMAZING disliked: Cosette should not be a white little girl and black grown up girl. Either white or black from begging to end, otherwise is difficult to create the same empathy when the change occurs. Many people were talking about that in the end.

Incredible performance ! Will definitely be watching this show again.

London Box Office customer

A musical that shouldn't be missed!

Amazing show, my husband came, who normally moans about the seating in theatres and can ruin it for everyone but the show removed any negativity and he enjoyed very much.

London Box Office customer

This production brought me to tears

Having read the book and seen multiple adaptations, I was still blown away by the acting and musicality. The set was striking and effective, especially the barricade! However, this show is fun and accessible to theatergoers who know nothing about it and I would recommend it to anyone who wants a great night with a fantastic show.

London Box Office customer

Brilliant.

The show was exceptional.

London Box Office customer

magical show

London Box Office customer

Powerful every time.

It’s a long time since I saw Les Mis, but I was equally as affected as I had been then. The atmosphere of the times is well portrayed and the music is powerful and memorable.

London Box Office customer

Best musical since West Side Story

Show was excellent with strong performances by Jean Veljean and Javier. Performance by the adult Cosette was weak.

London Box Office customer

London Box Office customer

Spectacular

London Box Office customer

Comparative

I have seen Les Miserables now four times, both here and in Melbourne Australia. The Melbourne production was more dramatic, intense and acting and singing was exceptional. The character of John Valjean in tnis production was very good. I think this is one of the best musicals I have seen.

London Box Office customer

An emotional one

This show was absolutely incredible. Left feeling so inspired and in awe at the talent of the cast. They truly captured the audience from start to finish!!!

London Box Office customer

Amazing scenario, play perfect and musical

Amazing evening with Les Miserables

A must see in London. We had a perfect evening with a great show and excellent singers / actors.

London Box Office customer

Tear jerking

The show was magnificent. Hard to put into words !! Valjean was by far the best I’ve seen and heard. I wanted to sit through the whole show again. I’m still singing the numbers in my head

London Box Office customer

Amazing as usual

Seen this show 11 times in the last twenty years, I’m a Londoner, but I think that Coursette was amazing as the adult but to change from white to black may have shocked some theatre goers, either all back or all white, that didn’t make sense at all, ?????

London Box Office customer

Loved every part of it!

Unforgetable

London Box Office customer

Amazingly good!

London Box Office customer

Absolutely spectacular!

I took my 13 year old daughter. A little concerned she’d struggle to follow the story or indeed withstand a long performance but we were both captivated from beginning to end! Absolutely cannot recommend it enough, memories to last a lifetime and so proud to be part of the standing ovation!
