Orwell's iconic novel is brought to life in a site-specific performance in the magnificent surroundings of the Hackney Town Hall where it kicks off its limited run in October.
Dominic Carter, Joe Anderson and Neetika Knight headshots. Provided by production.
The cast has been announced for 1984, which returns following their sell out and critically acclaimed first run.
Jack Reardon will direct the cast including Dominic Carter (Boys from the Blackstuff) as O'Brien, Joe Anderson (Twilight: Breaking Dawn) as Winston and recent graduate Neetika Knight as Julia.
Mark Kitto will feature as the understudy for O’Brien, Michael James as the understudy for Winston, and Zara Gabbidon as the understudy for Julia, all featuring as ensemble members. Molly-Rose Treves and Jamal Renaldo complete the cast as the ensemble swings with music from Ciara Laste and Madison Grace.
In an age when we are tracked, monitored and influenced, Orwell's 1984 has never had more relevance. The well known dystopian story explores a regime where the government, led by Big Brother, exercises absolute control over its citizens through surveillance, censorship, and manipulation of truth, erasing individual freedom and independent thought.
1984 will perform at the Hackney Town Hall from 1 October - 22 December 2024.
