What is Oliver! about?
A musical adaptation of the classic novel by Charles Dickens, Oliver! tells the story of young, innocent orphan Oliver Twist, who escapes the clutches of a grim workhouse and finds himself in the seedy underbelly of Victorian London, falling in with the duplicitous Fagin and his gang of pickpockets. All Oliver wants is to find a home, but everyone he encounters seems to have their own agenda for him.
First premiering in 1960, this Olivier, Tony, and Oscar-winning musical is now back in the West End after 14 years. With a book, music, and lyrics by Lionel Bart, Oliver! has been a favourite of British audiences since it first opened, packed with colourful, dynamic sets, lively choreography, and of course, songs we all know and love, like Food, Glorious Food, Consider Yourself and I'd Do Anything. Fantastic, quality entertainment - highly recommendBrilliant show. ALL of the cast put everything into it. The live orchestra were amazing. We saw Matt Lucas as Fagin who played the part so well. Our "Oliver" was James Miller. He was incredible for such a young actor.He's a natural. All the children were so good. Nancy, Bill, Artful Dodger & the whole cast. Our seats were in the Dress Circle row D. Great unrestrictrd view of the whole show. The leg room was a little tight as expected in such an old but beautiful theatre. Air conditioned. Standing ovation & a happy audience.

Awful SeatsThese seats were the worst ever. Uncomfortable with poor leg room. Had to lean over most of the time and still couldn’t see all of the stage. The spot lighting personnel told us you could see 95% of the action. I emphatically disagree and estimate about 75%. We were so uncomfortable we left at intermission but couldn’t sit and lean over for another minute Even though we were quite enjoying the show. I’m thinking about seeking a partial or full refund but I’m sure your process is so complicated it wouldn’t be worth my time. You should not be selling these seats!

We took our adult daughter who has special needs. It was too loud for her, however, the staff were super kind and supported her to watch it in the foyer and then supported her to give it another try. She managed the second half sitting back with us. It was wonderful to be cared for like this

The creators (director, choreographer, actors) try too hard to make this "interesting", as if they don't trust the material. Fagin seems to think this is stand-up comedy, and Matthew Bourne (as usual) ignores the context, showcasing the dances rather than letting them serve the story. While diverting, especially with the great material, this is not a serious production. That said, the audience seemed to enjoy it, so maybe it's just me. The set and lighting were terrific, as was the orchestra. Still, I wouldn't recommend this "Oliver!" to first-timers.

An oldie brought back to lifeThe original movie from decades ago was very good. I didn’t realize just how good a stage production could be! The theatre set design was awesome, and I liked how it moved to show distance in the play, the set so well designed that many people easily moved around. The stage scene set was fabulous. The story line was great and it evoked emotions for me. The acting was superb…the person who played the lead woman, Nancy, really had a wonderful set of vocal cords. Just wonderful! The person who played Fagan did an outstanding job with great comic timing. The kids were great in their singing and dancing…really nice to see them do their parts very well. The entire cast really, were so good! Really good! And the orchestra was fabulous!! I give this production 5 stars and it ranks up there with the classics (old and new) like Les Miz, Hamilton, Phantom of the Opera. This was a REALLY GREAT show!! I am SO glad I went!
