Nicole Kidman to return to the London Stage

A Month In The Country Oscar-winning actress Nicole Kidman has expressed her eagerness to return to the London Stage, and now it looks like this might become a reality.

The Hollywood superstar is in negotiations with West End producers to star in the moving Russian play A Month In The Country by Ivan Turgenev. Attached to direct the production is former Artistic Director of the Royal Court, Ian Rickson, also the man behind West End and Broadway smash-hit Jerusalem and the more recent Mojo.

Rumours are that it will be Patrick Marber’s adaptation of A Month In The Country, with the view to mounting a production in the West End in 2015.

Kidman was last seen treading to boards in London back in 1998, when she starred in The Blue Room by David Hare at the Donmar Warehouse and then in the West End. The actress received widespread critical acclaim in the production directed by Sam Mendes.

Nicole Kidman is best known for her starring roles in blockbuster films such as The Others, Moulin Rouge, Cold Mountain and The Hours. In A Month In The Country, Kidman would play the part of Natalya Petrovna, the wife of a wealthy landowner who falls in love with a young teacher out of boredom.

No doubt further discussions are needed with potential producer Sonia Friedman and director Ian Rickson, but Kidman was due in London this month to film Michael Grandage’s first feature film, Genius, alongside Jude Law and Colin Firth. So this was the perfect opportunity to iron out any kinks, and get the production up and running!

Look out for more news on the exciting prospect of Kidman’s return to the London stage soon.
