A Month in the Country Tickets

Based on Ivan Turgenev's 19th-century play, this classic Russian tragicomedy unfolds on a wealthy country estate where, to every outside eye, Natalya Petrovna has everything a woman could want. There is a fine house, an adoring husband, a set of devoted admirers and days that run to an orderly, well-mannered calm - and she is bored to distraction. All that changes with the arrival of a young, penniless tutor for her son, who ignites a spark of desire in Natalya that threatens to disrupt the peace of the household and turn her perfectly ordered life upside down.

Lyndsey Turner directs Brian Friel's reworking of Turgenev's most famous play, a story of complex family dynamics and love affairs whose subtle psychological realism would go on to influence playwrights like Chekhov. It's a painful, delicate study of unrequited desire, self-sabotage, and the clash between passion and propriety. Once considered too immoral for the stage, the play is given new life in Friel's version of this exhilarating classic, praised as "a witty adaptation of a Russian classic" by The Independent and "the perfect end-of-summer treat" by Broadway World. Sophie Okonedo leads a stunningly talented cast as Natalya Petrovna in this bold, witty staging.

Lovers of Russian literature won't want to miss this clever, psychologically complex, and emotionally resonant drama.
