The cult hit film, released in 2000, will be adapted for the stage by Jamie Wilson Productions (JWP) alongside Nederlander Studios. Based on the iconic New York Coyote Ugly Saloon bar, the original multi award winning team behind the music, lyrics and script will collaborate on this new musical.
Coyote Ugly - A New Musical is about a young, aspiring songwriter called Violet Sanford who moves to the bright lights of New York City to pursue her dreams. However, unexpectedly, that place is in a bar where the employees dance on the bar and tease the patrons. The film was based on Elizabeth Gilbert’s 1997 GQ article, The Muse of the Coyote Ugly Saloon, about her experiences as a bartender at the renowned bar.
Diane Warren, the multi award winning original songwriter, will bring to the musical the iconic tracks she wrote for the film; Can’t Fight The Moonlight, Please Remember, The Right Kind of Wrong and But I Do Love You, as well as writing original new songs for the production.
The production will be directed and choreographed by Jerry Mitchell (The Devil Wears Prada Musical).
More information on this premiere is to be announced soon!
