Written by Nicholas Sparks in 1996 and adapted into a film in 2004 starring Ryan Gosling and Rachel McAdams, The Notebook follows Noah Calhoun and Allie Hamilton, who fall hopelessly in love despite coming from very different backgrounds. Circumstances threaten to keep them apart, but they keep finding their way back to each other against all odds.
The musical opened on Broadway in 2024, and will make its way over to the West End in time for the 30th anniversary of the book's publication. With music and lyrics by Ingrid Michaelson and a book by Bekah Brunstetter, the production is directed by Michael Greif and Schele Williams, with choreography by Katie Spelman.
The creative team also includes music supervision and arrangements by Carmel Dean, scenic design by David Zinn and Brett J Banakis, costume design by Paloma Young, lighting design by Ben Stanton, sound design by Nevin Steinberg, hair and wig design by Mia Neal, orchestrations by John Clancy and Dean, co-vocal arrangements by Michaelson and Dean, music direction by Jim Henson, and casting by Jill Green Casting.
Brunstetter said: “It’s been such a joy to adapt The Notebook for the stage – it’s such a timeless, universal love story that speaks to so many aspects of life."
The Notebook will run at the Judi Dench Theatre from 10 March 2027 until 11 December 2027, with an opening night on 13 April.
