DIRTY DANCING will now open at Prince Edward Theatre in early 2027

The stage adaptation of Dirty Dancing had its West End premiere at the Aldwych Theatre in 2006, where it ran for five years. It has since toured globally and returned to the West End periodically. This latest revival was due to open at the Capital Theatre in the autumn, as the first show at the new venue.

However, the Capital Theatre has been forced to postpone its opening from this autumn to next year, with a statement on the website citing "continuing planning permission delays with Hammersmith and Fulham Borough Council which are beyond the producer’s control." The West London venue is set to feature a purpose-built, 620-seat auditorium, designed by the same team responsible for notable London venues including the Bridge Theatre and the transformed Kit Kat Club.

In light of these delays, the Capital Theatre has now pulled its opening production of Dirty Dancing, which will instead open at the Prince Edward Theatre early in 2027.

Based on the 1987 film starring Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, and written by the film's screenwriter Eleanor Bergstein, Dirty Dancing follows good girl Frances 'Baby' Houseman, who falls for working class dance instructor Johnny Castle at the resort where her family is vacationing. Directed by Frederico Bellone, the stage production will feature new choreography by Chiara Vecchi, while musical superviser Richard John will orchestrate the classic soundtrack of 35 hit songs, including 'Hungry Eyes', 'Hey Baby, Do You Love Me?', and of course, '(I've Had) The Time of My Life'.

Dirty Dancing will run at the Prince Edward Theatre from January 2027 for a limited season, with full details to be announced soon.
