A brand-new, modern, musical retelling of the Oscar Wilde classic novel is heading to London!

Dorian: The Musical will premiere at the Southwark Playhouse Borough for a five-week run from 4th July.
Beginning its life as a reading at Cafe Royal, in the same room where Oscar Wilde staged his own readings. An earlier version of the musical was cancelled two days before it was due to open in March 2020. A version of Dorian: The Musical was streamed during the lockdown in 2021 and now it's having a fully staged version, following a successful workshop at The Other Palace.
What is Dorian: The Musical about?
This modern queer fairy-tale follows Dorian Gray, a wannabe rockstar with grandiose dreams who strikes a dangerous bargain to achieve success. Inspired by the classic Oscar Wilde novel, this musical retelling explores the heartache as Dorian faces the prospect of eternal glory which opens a Pandora’s box of love, lust, and corruption. This show gives the Gothic story a glam-rock twist as the young musician is pulled in every direction by his fans, record producers, and photographers - slowly warping his impressionable mind.
Dorian: The Musical will explore the dark side of eternal youth with a modern twist. A fully 21st-century production of the Victorian classic will incorporate rock music and social media into the mix whilst remaining true to the bohemian thrill of the original.
The cast and creative team of Dorian: The Musical
Leading the production in the iconic role of Dorian will be Alfie Friedman (Laughing Boy, Jermyn Street Theatre/ Theatre Royal Bath).
Further cast is to be announced.
Directed by Linnie Reedman, the creative team includes Music and Lyrics by Joe Evans, Musical Director Aaron Clingham, Production Manager & Lighting Designer Toby Darvill, Set and Costume Designer Isabella Van Braeckel, Sound Designer Mike Thacker and General Manangement from Carter Dixon McGill.
