Lesley Manville and Anna Maxwell Martin to star in revival of AUGUST: OSAGE COUNTY

In this unfiltered portrait of family life, the fiercely dysfunctional Weston family reunites at their Oklahoma home following a sudden family crisis. Old wounds reopen and long-buried secrets come to life as simmering resentments come to the surface. Both darkly funny and deeply moving, Tracy Letts' modern masterpiece is filled with unforgettable characters, blistering dialogue and explosive family truths.

Widely considered one of the defining plays of the 21st century, August: Osage County was first performed by Chicago's Steppenwolf Theatre Company in 2007 before successful runs on Broadway and at London's National Theatre. In 2013, it was adapted into a film directed by John Wells and starring Meryl Streep and Julia Roberts. The play has earned acclaim worldwide for its unflinching exploration of family, addiction, and grief.

Now it returns to the West End for its first major revival, directed by Jeremy Herrin (People, Places and Things and Wolf Hall). It will star two-time Olivier Award winner and 2026 Tony Award Best Actress winner Lesley Manville (The Crown, Odeipus on Broadway, Phantom Thread) as Violet Weston, alongside two-time BAFTA TV Award winner Anna Maxwell Martin (Bleak House, Poppy Shakespeare, Motherland) as Barbara Fordham.

Manville expressed her excitement for the revival, calling the play "an epic piece of American literature" and a "complex, funny, tragic, ultimate family saga", while Herrin called it "one of the great plays of our time".

August: Osage County will play a strictly limited 12-week season at the Noël Coward Theatre from Monday 18 January to Saturday 10 April 2027.
