In this gripping new political thriller set in New York in 1965, investigative journalist Dorothy Kilgallen sets out to discover the truth behind three of the most infamous deaths of the 20th century: Marilyn Monroe, John F. Kennedy, and Lee Harvey Oswald. Following a trail from Hollywood to the White House, from the Kennedy dynasty to the New Orleans underworld, Dorothy begins to see connections others have missed — connections involving Robert Kennedy, Jack Ruby, organised crime boss Carlos Marcello, Marilyn Monroe, Oswald and JFK. As she gets closer to the truth in the biggest story of her career, the more dangerous her investigation becomes.
Written by Torben Betts (Murder in the Dark) and directed by multi-award-winning, legendary theatre and film director Trevor Nunn, Speculations stars Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee (Comic Potential, Carousel, Me and Orson Welles) as one of America’s most celebrated journalists. Blending Hollywood glamour, political intrigue and true-crime mystery, this new original play is inspired by astounding true events and Dorothy Kilgallen's real-life investigation into the mysterious circumstances of the deaths of Kennedy and Monroe and the possible connections between them.
The creative team includes Design by Lee Newby with Lighting Design by Johanna Town and Sound by Gregory Clarke. The rest of the cast will be announced shortly.
Speculations will have its world premiere at the Marylebone Theatre, running from Friday 30 October to Sunday 3 January with press night on Wednesday 4 November.
