Newsies is heading for the West End in 2022. Nobody knows when, or where. We’re keeping our eyes open for a cast announcement. We know the show’s Twitter account has kicked off, and we all know what that means. The show is definitely on the road.
There’s a Newsies website, another hint things are underway behind the scenes.
What’s the plot of Newsies?
Prepare for some gritty reporting. The scene is turn-of-the century New York City. This is the inspiring story of Jack Kelly, a newsboy with a difference who leads a band of teen ‘newsies’. When the publishing giants try to play dirty with them, Jack rallies newsies from across the city. They go on strike against unfair conditions and begin a battle for what's right.
Based on the 1992 film, itself based on a true story, the Tony Award-winning score comes from Alan Menken and Jack Feldman. The book’s by another Tony Award winner, Harvey Fierstein, and there’s a bundle of songs that have fast become classics: Carrying the Banner, Seize the Day, Santa Fe and more.
Walk this way for a thrilling message set against a timeless vintage landscape and a real family favourite.
We’ll reveal more as soon as we know it.
