Tarantino is best-known for a career making bloody, outrageous film classics such as Pulp Fiction, Reservoir Dogs, and Kill Bill. He's now making his debut as a theatre writer and director with The Popinjay Cavalier, which has been described as a "swashbuckling comedy" set in 1830s Europe.
Little has been revealed about the plot at this time, but the play is being billed as "a rambunctious comedy of deception and disguise inspired by the grand swashbuckling epics of stage and screen", and "a sweeping celebration of theatre and its heightened romance, told with Tarantino's signature style and unmistakable wit".
With nine films under his belt, Tarantino has won two Oscars, for Pulp Fiction and Django Unchained. He first announced his plans to stage a play last summer during the Church of Tarantino podcast, and has now revealed further details about the production, including its name.
The Popinjay Cavalier is produced by Sonia Friedman Productions (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Paddington the Musical) and Sony Pictures Entertainment. Casting, venue, and other details will be revealed in due course.
