An Oak Tree artwork.
Written, performed and co-directed by award-winning theatre maker, writer, actor and director Tim Crouch, An Oak Tree will be staged at the Young Vic this Spring for a limited time.
This play delivers a bold, humorous, and deeply moving exploration of loss, perception, and the power of the mind. An Oak Tree revolutionised theatre with its pioneering concept of a 'cold-read' performance, inspiring countless artists to experiment with this form. Each performance features a new guest artist stepping into the unknown, performing the play for the first and only time without prior rehearsal, reading, or preparation.
15 different guest artists will take part alongside Tim Crouch himself. The first names to be announced are Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísù (Gangs of London), Michelle Terry (Tribes), Luke Thompson (Bridgerton), Russell Tovey (Being Human) and Indira Varma (Game of Thrones). The guest artist of the evening will only be revealed to audiences live on the night. The remainder of the artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Presented by Francesca Moody Productions (FMP), An Oak Tree is directed by Tim Crouch, Karl James and Andy Smith, the play also features music by Peter Gill.
A production which has been performed globally for over two decades, An Oak Tree is a real treat for audiences and runs at the Young Vic from 6 - 17 May 2025.
