Written by English dramatist J. B. Priestley and first performed in 1945, An Inspector Calls opens with the unexpected arrival of Inspector Goole at the wealthy Birling family's home, shattering their dinner party with his investigation into a young woman's death. His shocking revelations will shake the very foundations of their lives.
Stephen Daldry's seminal production premiered in 1992 and has since won 19 major awards, including four Tony Awards and three Olivier Awards, and has played to more than 6 million theatregoers worldwide. Daldry, who served as producer and director on The Crown and produced the opening and closing ceremonies for the 2012 London Olympics, said, "None of us could have imagined that we would still be touring the production 35 years later. It's extraordinary that Priestley's play continues to resonate so strongly with audiences, and perhaps more importantly, that its message remains as relevant today as ever."
An Inspector Calls will open at Alexandra Palace Theatre on 3 September 2027, where it will play for three weeks before embarking on a UK and Ireland tour. Casting will be announced in due course.
