The world premiere of Kit Withington's play makes its debut at the Bush Theatre in April. Heart Wall, which is firmly centred in the North-West of England, invites audiences down to the pub for an evening of family, banter, beer, and karaoke.

Written by Withington and directed by Katie Grenal, Heart Wall offers a bittersweet, tender exploration of the long tail of grief and fickleness of memory.

It centres on Franky, who returns home from university on a Friday night and visits her local pub for the first time in years. This British institution, so often under threat of closure, sits at the heart of the community. It’s where pints are poured, Motown music drifts from tinny speakers, and karaoke begins at eight. Franky seeks refuge there, haunted by grief as her family quietly unravels around her. Her father has withdrawn into himself, and long-buried family secrets are beginning to surface.

Starring in the production at the Bush Theatre will be Aaron Anthony (A Christmas Carol, Sheffield Crucible) as Valentine, Olivia Forrest (Little Death, Theatre 503) as Charli, Rowan Robinson (Brassic, SKY) as Franky, Sophie Stanton (Eastenders) as Linda and Deka Walmsley (Ghosts, Lyric Hammersmith) as Dez.

The creative team for the run includes Set and Costume Designer Hazel Low, Costume Supervisor Esther Taylor, Lighting Designer Simisola Majekodunmi, Sound Designer & Composer Mwen, Movement Director Mateus Daniel and Casting Director Jatina Chera.

Heart Wall will play from 7 April - 16 May 2026.
