The Tony Award-winning musical, based on the 2001 comedy by David Lindsay-Abaire of the same name, will finally transfer to the London stage next summer.

With a book and lyrics by David Linsday Abaire, and music by Jeanie Tesori, Kimberly Akimbo made its Off-Broadway debut in 2021 in Manhattan to critical acclaim. Its subsequent transfer on Broadway took place in November 2022, where it obtained five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, and Best Original Score. It ran at the Booth Theatre and came to a close in 2024, then embarked on a North American Tour. There have been rumours of a London transfer for a while, and now it's happening in 2026!
The London production will be directed by Michael Longhurst, known for his work on Caroline, Or Change and Gloria. His recent production of Next to Normal was nominated for an Olivier Award and transferred to the West End following a sold-out run at the Donmar Warehouse.
Kimberly Akimbo follows a teenage girl who has a rare genetic condition that causes her to age four and a half times faster than normal. The story will take us through the typical challenges of being a teenager whilst also confronting her own mortality, the search for love and meaning. Whilst Kimberly Akimbo is embedded with difficult themes, it's also sprinkled with joy and is about living life to its fullest.
The cast for the London run is to be announced.
Kimberly Akimbo will head to the Hampstead Theatre from 28 August to 7 November.
