Suzanne Collins' beloved dystopian young adult book series, The Hunger Games, spawned a globally acclaimed franchise, including two spin-off novels and five blockbuster films, with a sixth on the way. Now, it comes to the stage for the first time in this highly anticipated stage adaptation, with a screenplay written by Conor McPherson and directed by Matthew Dunster.

In this harrowing, thrilling story, the dystopian society of Panem is divided into twelve oppressed districts, each which is forced to send two children to fight in the Hunger Games, a deadly battle to the death, for the amusement of the ruling citizens of the Capitol. Teenage Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her sister's place in the Games and becomes a symbol of hope for a revolution against the oppressive power of the Capitol.

Katniss was previously played by Jennifer Lawrence in the film tetralogy by Lionsgate, and now Mia Carragher steps into the role of Collins' fearless, resourceful heroine. Carragher's previous credits including the independent feature One Night in Istanbul and Channel 4's The Gathering, and she will soon star in the series Maigret and the feature film Let's Love.

Carragher said, “I am so excited and honoured to be playing Katniss. This is a dream come true role and I cannot wait to see the production come to life. From being a huge fan of the films, I feel so lucky to be a part of the Hunger Games world, especially working with Mathew Dunster and an incredible creative team”.

Director Matthew Dunster said, “We searched far and wide, and comprehensively, for our Katniss. It is not easy to step into Suzanne Collins’s amazing creation and only one actor combined Katniss’s charisma and combat skills - her quiet, tough determination and her brilliant creativity, athleticism, and humour. We’ve found our Katniss in Mia Carragher, and we can’t wait for audiences to see her.”

The Hunger Games: On Stage will premiere on October 20th 2025, at the state of the art Troubadour Canary Wharf Theatre, a purpose-built theatre-in-the-round venue designed specially to emulate the Hunger Games arena and thrust audiences right into the action alongside Carragher's Katniss.
