The Hunger Games: On Stage in London
Step into the Arena and witness the 74th annual Hunger Games, a spectacle of glitzy outfits, manipulation, and violence. Based on the bestselling young adult book series, this musical brings to life the story of heroine Katniss Everdeen as she fights for survival in a terrifyingly dystopian world, now told through dazzling musical numbers and breathtaking choreography.
Why should you watch The Hunger Games?
- Fans of the book and those new to the franchise will love this epic tale of rebellion in the face of tyranny, full of thrilling action and drama, which also explores themes of propaganda and oppression that feel frighteningly relevant to the world today.
- With lavish, outlandish costumes, colourful characters, dynamic world-building and settings, and a story based on spectacle, The Hunger Games feels like a series that was made for the stage, and is sure to be a feast for the senses.
- The show will be staged in a purpose-built, state-of-the-art venue designed by the Troubadour team (who previously designed the iconic theatre that houses Starlight Express), meant to replicate the terrifying Hunger Games arena and create a truly immersive experience for audiences.
What is The Hunger Games about?
Welcome to the dystopian world of Panem, where each year children from the twelve districts are reaped to participate in the Hunger Games, a brutal fight to the death watched by hundreds of bloodthirsty citizens of the Capitol. When Katniss Everdeen volunteers to take her sister’s place in the Games, she’s forced to fight for her survival while also being swept into a rebellion against the Capitol.
Suzanne Collins’ epic young adult book series became an instant best-seller for its thrilling story of revolution and resilience, and its searing social commentary. Along with a film tetralogy by Lionsgate starring Jennifer Lawrence, the franchise has produced two new standalone books and their film adaptations…. And now, for the first time, The Hunger Games comes to the stage.
Conor McPherson, best known for darkly melancholy works like Girl From the North Country and The Weir, partners with Matthew Dunster (2:22 A Ghost Story, Hangmen), alongside collaboration with Suzanne Collins herself, to bring this exhilarating story to life, in a purpose-built venue meant to pay homage to the book’s iconic settings.
The Hunger Games’ themes of propaganda, resistance against oppressive regimes, and courage in the face of tyranny feel hauntingly relevant today as much as they did when the books were first written. Fans of the franchise and newcomers alike will be mesmerised by the breathtaking set design, effects, and choreography that bring this beloved story and its popular characters to life. So book now, and may the odds be ever in your favour.
