Sesame Street: The Musical is an off-Broadway stage production featuring songs and characters from the wonderful TV show, Sesame Street, first announced in a press release to Variety in June 2022. Now there might be a London transfer on the way. If the rumours are right, we might also see one or more British actors playing the audience member who joins the show.
Who’s involved in SESAME STREET MUSICAL
In the show, the Sesame Street Muppets are busy putting on their own musical, but they’ve forgotten to get a special guest star. A lost human audience member is wrangled into the proceedings and taught how to sing and dance for the show's big final number.
- The show opened on 22nd September 2022 with previews from 8th September, at Theater Row on West 42nd Street, and runs to 27th November.
- The show tunes are established songs from the show's history as well as new material written especially for the production by Tom Kitt, Helen Park, and Nate Edmondson
- The puppet cast of characters includes Elmo, Cookie Monster, Grover, Abby Cadabby, Rosita, Bert, Ernie, Oscar the Grouch, Count von Count, Gabrielle, and a host of Honkers, Martians, and other favourites
- The show features special guest stars from Broadway and beyond
- The only human actor is Stephen Fala, playing an audience member who joins the show
- Directed and Written by Jonathan Rockefeller
