Statues is a witty, honest and deeply moving play that explores the impact of loss and will perform at the Bush Theatre from 9 October - 9 November 2024.
Joining award-winning actor Azan Ahmed in the production will be Johnny Khan (The Tempest, RSC).
Directed by Esme Allman, Statues centres on the loss of Yusuf's father and how the discovery of a dusty mixtape changes everything he knew about a man who barely spoke. Yusuf will discover how a passionate wordsmith, who spent the 90s rapping about pretty girls and Kilburn life, became a silent statue. Statues will take audiences on a journey into the past, threaded by Omar's thumping beats and his father's bars.

For audiences, Ahmed has described this production as a "love letter to all the wonderful possibilities British Muslim men hold but are forced to hold down because they are British Muslim men". Statues will have you tapping your feet one minute and clutching your heart the next!
