Cast announced for THE TEMPEST at Sam Wanamaker Playhouse

A striking new production of The Tempest by the award-winning theatre maker Tim Crouch in his Globe directorial debut will play at the Sam Wanamaker from 17 January for a limited run.

Shakespeare’s timeless story follows the exiled magician Prospero, who uses magic to create a violent storm to bring his enemies to the island where he and his daughter live. Using his magic to manipulate and test the shipwrecked survivors, he ultimately moves toward forgiveness and reconciliation.
Starring in the production, Tim will also play Prospero, with the rest of the cast comprising of Faizal Abdullah (Siapa Yang Bawa Melayu Aku Pergi? (Who Took My Malay Away?), Edinburgh Festival Fringe) as Caliban, Colin Michael Carmichael (Midsummer Night's Dream, Bristol Old Vic) as Sebastian, Joshua Griffin (Henry V, Shakespeare's Globe) as Ferdinand, Amanda Hadingue (The Secret Garden, Regent's Park Open Air Theatre) as Antonia, Tyrone Huggins (Noughts & Crosses, RSC) as Gonzalo, Mercè Ribot (Let the Right One In, Royal Exchange) as Trinculo, Patricia Rodriguez (The Threesome, National Theatre) as Stephano, Sophie Steer (Rhinoceros, Almeida Theatre) as Miranda, Jo Stone-Fewings (King John, Shakespeare's Globe) as Alonso, and Naomi Wirthner (The Doctor, Almeida Theatre) as Ariel.
Director Tim Crouch says: “This project is the stuff that dreams are made on. I’m working with a company I've dreamed of working with; directing a play I've dreamed of directing; performing in a dream space that feels like it was tailor-made for me. I can’t wait to share this story with an audience.”
The creative team includes Associate Director Justina Kehinde and Candlelight Designer Anna Watson, with Orlando Gough as Composer, Rachana Jhadav as Designer, and Annemette Verspeak as the Voice and Text Consultant and Casting by Becky Paris CDG, Head of Casting at Shakespeare’s Globe.
The Tempest will play at the Sam Wanamaker Playhouse from 17 January - 12 April 2026.
