After Sunday in London
Occupational therapist Naomi runs a Caribbean cooking group in the hospital where she works. Her participants - Ty, Daniel, and Leroy - each have their own agenda for joining, but soon start to embrace the group as memories of home and their lives outside start to resurface. As the hospital’s Family Day approaches, the cooking group struggles to build trust and overcome the traumas of their past.
This poignant, clever debut play is written by Bush Writers’ Group alumni Sophia Griffin and directed by Belgrade Theatre Artistic Director, Corey Campbell (Romeo and Juliet). With scenes featuring live cooking onstage, it is a searing homage to the power of food in building community, and the realities of marginalised people grappling with a dehumanising system.
