Get Down Tonight: The KC and the Sunshine Band Musical in London

Playing at the Charing Cross Theatre from September 19th, Get Down Tonight is a feel-good celebration of KC and the Sunshine Band's musical legacy. Set in Miami in the 1970s, it follows the early years of Harry Wayne Casey (KC), musician and founder of KC and the Sunshine Band. This soaring tribute to friendship and music is written by J.F. Lawton (Pretty Woman: The Musical, Under Siege) and developed in collaboration with KC himself, featuring 20 of the band's hit songs.

Why you should see Get Down Tonight

  • KC and the Sunshine Band have sold over 100 million records worldwide, with five number-one singles on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart, four UK Top 10 singles, and a Grammy Award as part of the Saturday Night Fever soundtrack. The musical features 20 of their greatest hits, including 'That's the Way (I Like It)' and 'Get Down Tonight'.
  • If you love music, you'll love experiencing the band's 'Sunshine Sound', a mix of disco, funk, R&B, and pop - the infectious sound of the seventies, which has continued to inspire artists across all genres.
  • The band's founder himself, KC, has played a pivotal role in bringing this musical and his story to life, in a tribute to friendship and disco, and a celebration of the iconic music of the seventies.

What is Get Down Tonight about?

Get Down Tonight tells the true story of musician Harry Wayne Casey's youth. Fresh out of college, KC is trying to figure out his future while enjoying a summer of love and romance alongside both new and old friends. All this is told through an eclectic mix of disco anthems and vibrant musical spectacles, set against the glittering nightclubs, beaches, and record shops of 1970s Miami.

Get Down Tonight was previously staged at Edinburgh Fringe in 2024 as Who Do Ya Love, before being reworked into a 90-minute musical. The production is presented by ATG Productions, Gavin Kalin Productions, Casey, CTK Enterprises and LPO. To bring the story to life, KC collaborated with J.F. Lawton, who has choreographed and directed for the stage and screen, including Bombay Dreams, Spamalot, and the 2010 Winter Olympics.

Get Down Tonight will run for eight weeks from 19th September to 15th November at the Charing Cross Theatre. So grab your boogie shoes and don't miss out on this energetic, heart-thumping celebration of one of the most beloved bands of the seventies.

Fantastic Talent

Storyline was not that great. Could have been a lot better. The singers/dancers were excellent. Would have been much better if we’d been able to appreciate the fantastic talent of these young dancers/singers but the show didn’t consist of entire KC and the Sunshine Band hits. It wasn’t what I expected therefore a little disappointing. What I did enjoy was the raw talent of the performers. Let them sing complete hits performed by the band. Not really that interested in the sex life of the characters! Storyline seemed to labour on about that! Think the entire audience was probably expecting to hear all of the bands hits! That’s what I was paying to see anyway.

Complete Waste of Time

I was disappointed with the show. It is supposed to be a musical featuring the hits of KC and the Sunshine Band. Given that most of the music is out of the disco era, one would expect a good gutsy base sound as well as crisp highs. There was a live band who could obviously play well, but the mixing let them down. Additionally, there was no real wow factor when it came to any of the singing from the cast.

Fabulous tunes and high energy show

Absolutely loved this show. Full of dancing and full of singing some of my favourite songs from one of my favourite music eras. I seem to think though that the show never actually told the bit of the story of how KC formed the Sunshine Band, unless I totally lost the plot amid all the sequins and fabulousness! Totally recommend for the music alone. It will make you want to get up and shake shake shake your booty. 👍

i really liked the show i am a massive fan of kc and the sunshine band i thought it would be about how the band was formed as there would have been no kc without the sunshine band. There was no mention of RICHARD fINCH with Kc wrote and produced most of their massive hits i read they met when he worked at the recording studio. anyway lovely to hear their fantastic songs again actors were great
