The Holy Rosenbergs in London

The Rosenbergs are a Jewish family in London, on the brink of crisis: patriarch David is struggling to keep his catering business afloat in Edgware. His wife Lesley is equally desperately fighting to keep their family together. Their daughter Ruth is a lawyer leading a UN inquiry into war crimes in Gaza. When she returns home for the funeral of her brother, an IDF soldier killed in action, she faces anger and condemnation from their tight-knit community. Ostracised by their own, filled with turmoil in their home, the family is forced to confront faith, identity, and the pressures of tradition.

Ryan Craig's provocative, powerful play was first staged in 2011, and returns for a major revival at the Menier Chocolate Factory, as timely and relevant today as it was at the time it was written. Grappling with difficult themes of family divisions, conflicts of faith, and the pressures of community, it has been widely praised for tackling complex political issues through the lens of a domestic drama. Lindsey Posner directs the revival of this painfully honest and raw story about a family facing inner turmoil as its pitted against its own community in the wake of a brutal tragedy.

Don't miss this stirring, emotional story that takes an unflinching look at the dark side of faith tradition, and community.

Brilliantly directed and acted

I don't think I've seen such a polished performance for a while. Loved the intimate theatre and set. A heartbreaking family drama with a political edge. The microcosm of the drama happening in the real world. Lots to think about. Last night, packed house!

Powerful and authentic

This was a truly excellent show. It felt totally authentic, relevant and extremely powerful. Acting was terrific, every character was convincing and so well acted. Although written some time ago the issues raised were totally pertinent for today. Much food for thought but most importantly it was drama.

Powerful, impactful, amazing acting

This is not for everyone, but for those who enjoy good acting and are open minded to the argument discussed. Personally, I was very moved and thought this was great.
