Nell Gwynn in London

Starring:

Gemma Arterton

It is 1660. The Puritans have run away with their drab grey tails between their legs. Charles II has exploded onto the scene with a love of all things loud, French and sexy. And at Drury Lane, a young Nell Gwynn is selling oranges for sixpence. Little does she know who's watching.

Award winning Gemma Arterton (The Duchess of Malfi, Made in Dagenham, Quantum of Solace) stars as cheeky, charming and clever Nell Gwynn, one of the first, and most acclaimed, women to appear on the London stage.

Jessica Swale's blissfully entertaining comedy celebrates an unlikely heroine, who went from lowly orange seller to win the adoration of the public and the heart of the King.
Following a critically acclaimed and sell-out limited season of 11 performances at Shakespeare's Globe, don't miss this opportunity to see Nell Gwynn in the West End.

Great jokes. Skillful acting.

Fantastic - loved this show!

This show was fabulous - funny, sparkling and colourful! I wouldn't take young children (though the innuendo would probably pass over their heads), but it was a great family day with our teenage daughters.

The best show I've seen in years!

The best show I've seen in years. Beautiful, funny and full of emotion. Gemma Arterton was incredible. Michelle Dotrice also offered wonderful support. Another triumph for The Apollo!

Bawdy banter !

Great fun ... Michelle Dotrice steals the show, but all are good and Gemma Arterton is sexy and sublime as the aponymous Nell.

Great Show

Lots of laughter but also pathos. Great comedy actors who varied the pace of the play to match the story reflecting the high point of Nell's life but also the down side to her situation. Good music, Nell has a lovely voice. Music evocative of the time in which the play set and lots of people left the theatre humming along.

Comical

Very comical! Not for youngsters! Took my mum for mother day gift and we both loved it! All actors/actresses were brilliant!

Hilarious and Clever!

Script and story line were fantastic, Strong political message articulated in a hilarious tongue in cheek manner! Would highly recommend to anyone with a good sense of humour!

Waste of money

Overacting. No depth. Not even funny.
