BURLESQUE THE MUSICAL postpones its London run

Burlesque the Musical, which was due to open at the new Arts at Marble Arch, has announced that it is postponing its London engagement.

Based on the popular 2010 Golden Globe Best Picture nominated film starring Christina Aguilera and Cher, Burlesque was adapted for the stage by Steven Antin and features music by Christina Aguilera, Sia, Diane Warren, Todrick Hall and Jess Folley. It tells the story of Ali, who arrives in New York in search of the mother she never knew, and stumbles upon a dazzling underground club. Cassidy Janson will play Tess Richarde, with Natalia Jacques, Gracie O'Brien, and Cecilia Petrush sharing the role of Ali Rose.

Following a sold-out run at the Savoy Theatre in 2025, Burlesque the Musical was due to begin performances at the Arts at Marble Arch on 12 September 2026, but it has now been announced that the production has been postponed until 2027, with a different venue and new dates to be confirmed.

In a statement, the producers emphasised that "this is absolutely a postponement, not a cancellation", and that they were exploring opportunities for a major London return in 2027 with a new West End home. On the reasons for the postponement, they cited a "strategic decision", and a need to ensure that the production could open with all the "fabulosity, concert-like experiential quality, sound design and razzle-dazzle that our audiences deserve."

It's another chapter in the show's turbulent history, following issues during its initial West End opening and major overhauls to the creative team, including the departure of former director, choreographer, and star Todrick Hall.
