The Standard of Living explores the life, legacy, and revolutionary ideas of John Maynard Keynes, the British economist and founder of Keynesian economics, who became the singular driving force behind arts funding in Britain and built a new and fairer financial model, that ultimately helped reshape the Western World in the aftermath of the First World War.

As previously announced, Olivier Award winner Rory Kinnear will star as Keynes, with Royal Ballet Principal Natalia Osipova making her West End debut as the celebrated ballet dancer Lydia Lopokova, wife to Keynes. Joining them are Thomas Flynn (Bridgerton) as Keynes’ friend and lover Duncan Grant and Laurie Kynaston (Spring Awakening, Almeida Theatre) as Keynes’ great economic rival Friedrich Hayek. Portraying members of the Bloomsbury Group, the rest of the cast includes Pip Carter (1917) as writer and critic Lytton Strachey; Agatha Enecio who makes her professional stage debut as Bloomsbury group artist Dora Carrington; Naomi Frederick (As You Like It, Shakespeare’s Globe) as one of the 20th centuries leading writers, Virginia Woolf; Claire Price (The Second Best Marigold Hotel) as designer and Woolf’s sister, Vanessa Bell; with George Taylor (Rye Lane) as economist and father of the Welfare State, William Beveridge. Completing the cast in the wider ensemble is Christopher Akrill, Luke Cinque-White Dannie Norman, Xolisweh Ana Richards and Ben Warwick.

The creative team includes Bob Crowley as Set Designer, Jenny Beavan as Costume Designer, James Cousins as Movement Director, Frank Moon as Composer, Edward Watson as Ballet Consultant, Bruno Poet as Lighting Designer, Carolyn Downing as Sound Designer, Luke Halls as Projection Designer, and Robert Sterne CDG as Casting Designer.

The Standard of Living will play at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from 21st September to 12th December.
