Set in Ohio in the 1970s, Liberation follows Lizzie, who gathers a group of women to discuss changing their lives and the world around them. The story later shifts to Lizzie’s daughter, who revisits her mother’s memories and the movement she helped shape in an attempt to find answers of her own.

It first premiered at Roundabout Theatre Company Off-Broadway before transferring to Broadway, opening at the James Earl Jones Theatre on 28 October 2025, where it ran until 1 February 2026. The Broadway production recently won the 2026 Pulitzer Prize for Drama and has received five Tony Award nominations, including Best Play. It has also won the Drama League Award for Outstanding Production of a Play, the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding New Off-Broadway Play, and Drama Desk and New York Drama Critics’ Circle awards for Best Ensemble Performance.

Written by Bess Wohl and directed by Whitney White, Liberation will be produced by Broadway producers Daryl Roth, Eva Price and Rachel Sussman in association with UK-based Eleanor Lloyd Productions and Eilene Davidson Productions – who recently produced Ava Pickett’s forthcoming Bloodsport: After Helen of Troy.

More details about casting, venue, and dates for the London run will be revealed in due course.
