Lifeline arrives in the city fresh from its off-Broadway run. The production has already made history when it became the first musical to ever perform at the United Nations in 2024 and two previous sell-out runs at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe in 2018 and 2022, where it ran under its previous name 'The Mould That Changed The World'.

Starring in the production will be Alan Vicary (The Phantom of the Opera, West End), Maz McGinlay (Hairspray, West-End); Nathan Salstone (Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, Broadway); Kieran Brown (Les Misérables, West End); Helen Logan (Traverse/Tron Theatre); Robbie Scott (Trainspotting, Phil McIntyre Live) and Kelly Glyptis (Phantom of The Opera, West End).

The ensemble includes Hannah Visocchi, Jasmine Jules Andrews and Graham Richardson.

Lifeline intertwines the story of Scottish scientist Alexander Fleming’s 1928 world-changing discovery of penicillin with that of Jess, a present-day doctor, whose childhood sweetheart, Aaron, is fighting for his life after developing an antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) infection following a routine operation.

The musical features a book by Becky Hope-Palmer and music and lyrics by Robin Hiley. It is inspired by real historical events, real voices and a real modern day global crisis. The cast will be joined by a live six-piece band and a chorus of real-life scientists, doctors, nurses and microbiologists.

The creative team also includes set designer Abby Clarke, costume designer Alice McNicholas, choreographer Leanne Pinder, lighting designer Matthew Craigen and sound designer Paul Smith.

Lifeline will play at the Southwark Playhouse Elephant from 28 March - 2 May 2026.
