What is MACHINAL about?
From the outside, Helen Jones and her husband display a 'happy marriage', until she murders him.
Based on the 1928 true crime story of Ruth Synder which shook a nation, Sophie Treadwell's seminal MACHINAL tells a pulse-pounding story of someone pushed to breaking point by the relentless machinery of life, expectation, and convention. Synder was sentenced to death for murder, her final moments in the electric chair were published on front pages across the American media. The case alone went on to inspire lots of things including Billy Wilder's Double Indemnity and Gun 'n' Roses Use Your Illusion albums.

The cast of Machinal will also include: Daniel Abelson, Sam Alexander, Steven Beard, Daniel Bowerbank,Imogen Daines, Buffy Davis, Tim Frances, Carla Harrison-Hodge, Emilio Iannucci, Pierro Niel-Mee and Wendy Nottingham, with further casting to be announced.
