PRIDE to transfer to the Bridge Theatre

Pride is based on the incredible true story of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), a group of activists who raised money to help the families affected by the miners' strike. In the summer of 1984, 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton tries to rally a divided group of gay men and lesbians into supporting the downtrodden miners striking across the country. Their efforts take them into a small pit village in South Wales, where the two threatened communities join forces and realise they have more in common than they ever imagined.

These remarkable events inspired an award-winning 2014 film by director Matthew Warchus (Matilda the Musical) and writer Stephen Beresford (The Last of the Haussmans), who then reunited to bring Pride to the stage alongside composers Christopher Nightingale (A Christmas Carol), Josh Cohen (Sylvia), and DJ Wilde (Sylvia). It features an original score with songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition.

Pride previewed to sold-out houses every night at Cardiff's Sherman Theatre and received its world premiere at the National Theatre’s Dorfman Theatre in June where it continues its current sell-out run until 12 September 2026. Opening during Pride Month, its powerful, impactful, and joyful story and message of unity received standing ovations and even tears during performances. Later this year, it will transfer to the 900 seat state-of-the-art Bridge Theatre - now owned and operated by Trafalgar Entertainment, making it the theatre's inaugaral production under this new ownership.

The cast for the transfer will include Samuel Barnett as Jonathan, Matthew Durkan as Mike, Gillian Elisa as Gwen, Chris Jenkins as Gethin, Darren Lawrence as Cliff, Kirsty Malpass as Hefina, Sarah Pugh as Siân, Caroline Sheen as Maureen, Courtney Stapleton as Steph and Matthew Woodyatt as Dai. Further casting will be announced soon.

The creative team is completed by by set and costume designer Bunny Christie, choreographer Lizzi Gee, orchestrations Christopher Nightingale and Tom Kelly, music supervision Tom Kelly, additional orchestrations Josh Cohen and DJ Walde, lighting designer Hugh Vanstone, sound designer Bobby Aitken, hair, wig & make-up design Campbell Young Associates and casting director David Grindrod CDG CSA.

Warchus and Beresford expressed their excitement for Pride's continued journey on the London stages, emphasising how its message of "community, solidarity and courage" feel deeply relevant to modern Britain, and calling it "a true story of hope that we need now more than ever."

Pride will begin performances at the Bridge Theatre from 12 November 2026.
