Pride The Musical in London

Now transferring to the Bridge Theatre, Pride continues to connect with audiences through its uplifting story based on incredible real-life events and its hopeful message of community, resilience, and solidarity, told through a stirring soundtrack.

Why you should watch Pride

  • It features a soulful, beautiful score with original songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition.
  • It's based on an inspiring true story about how the LGBT community supported miners during the miners' strike, a powerful and often overlooked moment in queer and British history.
  • Its message about community, resistance, and solidarity between marginalised groups feels every bit as timely and relevant to modern Britain as it ever did.

What is Pride about?

Summer, 1984. 24-year-old activist Mark Ashton tries to rally a divided group of gay men and lesbians into supporting the downtrodden miners striking across the country. Their efforts take them into a small pit village in South Wales, where the two threatened communities join forces and realise they have more in common than they ever imagined. This powerful play is based on the true story of Lesbians and Gays Support the Miners (LGSM), a group of activists who raised money to help the families affected by the miners' strike - a remarkable moment and often overlooked piece of British history.

This incredible true story inspired a 2014 film by director Matthew Warchus and writer Stephen Beresford, who reunited to bring Pride to the stage alongside composers Christopher Nightingale, Josh Cohen, and DJ Wilde. After delighting audiences at the National Theatre, this uplifting, joyful musical with a timely message is transferring to the Bridge Theatre. This moving musical filled with heart and humour features a score of original songs inspired by protest anthems, pop, rock, disco and the Welsh choral tradition. Through music and unforgettable characters, these powerful real-life events are given new life, in a story about resistance and community that will feel just as resonant to modern audiences.

Book now and experience a stirring musical that brings to life a powerful moment in queer history.

Cry your Heart Out!

It was an evening full of tears. If you’re going to see this play, you should take some tissues with you. The true story of the LGSM and the miners’ strike is both moving and entertaining. One moment you’re laughing, and the next the tears are flowing. Excellent actors and actresses, a minimalist but very convincing set design, and an outstanding cast. The long journey from Germany was well worth it. One slight drawback: there’s no cast album! I hope one will be released soon!
