Cast announced for SWEETMEATS World Premiere at Bush Theatre

An intimate love story between two South Asian elders, Sweetmeats will make its world premiere at the Bush Theatre in a limited run planned from early next year.

Written by the award-winning playwright Karim Khan (Brown Boys Swim, Soho Theatre) and directed by Tara Theatre’s Artistic Director Natasha Kathi-Chandra, the cast includes Shobu Kapoor (Polite Society)as Hema, and Rehan Sheikh (Silence, Donmar Warehouse) as Liaquat.
In a co-production with Tara Theatre, who are known for creating innovative and politically charged work through a South Asian lens, Sweetmeats follows the two South Asian elders who meet at a diabetes workshop and discover an unexpected and forbidden romance.
The creative team includes Set & Costume Designer Aldo Vázquez, Lighting Designer Simeon Miller, Composer Amrit Kaur Lohia, Movement Director Mateus Daniel, Costume Supervisor Malena Arcucci, Casting Director Chloe Blake, Production Manager Chloe Stally Gibson, Company Stage Manager on Book Jo Alexander, and Assistant Stage Manager Shuyin Stella Wang.
Sweetmeats will play at Bush Theatre from 7 February - 21 March 2026.
