Donmar Warehouse Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get to the Donmar Warehouse?
The Donmar is at 41 Earlham Street, WC2H 9LX, in the Seven Dials. Covent Garden and Leicester Square stations are both a few minutes' walk. One thing worth knowing before you set out: Earlham Street is cobbled. There is a pavement on each side with a smoother surface and a dropped kerb at either end, which is the route to take if wheels or heels are a consideration.
Is the Donmar Warehouse an accessible space?
Yes, with the detail worth knowing in advance. An easy-open button outside works the front doors. Two wheelchair spaces are held in the Stalls for every performance, and row C of the Stalls is the level-access row — elsewhere there are steps. The accessible toilet is on the second floor, and has a left-hand transfer rail, an emergency red cord and a paddle lever flush. A radio frequency system serves the main auditorium and hearing loops are fitted at every front-of-house counter, which also carry live audio description at designated performances. Guide, hearing and emotional support assistance dogs are all welcome in the auditorium. With only two spaces, book through the access team on 020 3282 3808 or access@donmarwarehouse.com.
Which seats should I choose at the Donmar Warehouse?
One thing to know before you choose: the Stalls here are padded benches rather than individual seats, while the circle has padded fold-down seats. Neither is uncomfortable, but if you would rather have your own armrest, the circle is the answer. The room holds only a few hundred people wrapped close around the stage, so there is no bad view — the choice is about how you would like to sit, not what you will see.
What time should I arrive at the Donmar Warehouse?
Thirty minutes, and be prompt rather than early-ish. This is a small room of a few hundred seats with the audience close on three sides, so a latecomer is conspicuous and will be held until a break that a ninety-minute play may not contain. The Seven Dials is a pleasant place to wait if you do arrive well ahead.
Can I take photographs inside the Donmar Warehouse?
Not during the performance. Before it, afterwards and at the curtain call you are welcome to. This is one of the smallest houses in central London and the front bench is close enough to the stage that a phone screen is part of the actors' eyeline, which is the practical reason rather than a matter of etiquette.
Is there a dress code at the Donmar Warehouse?
None. The Donmar was converted from a warehouse and has never pretended otherwise, so the audience dresses accordingly. Two practical notes: the Stalls are benches, so something you can sit on comfortably without a stiff waistband is wiser than something smart; and the cobbles of Earlham Street are unkind to thin heels.
