What is THE HANDMAID'S TALE about?
Based on Margaret Atwood's seminal dystopian novel of the same name, The Handmaid's Tale is a rarely staged and relevant opera. It was also a hugely successful Hulu TV series. The story is set in a totalitarian state where women are stripped of their identities and rights and are subjected to the whims of a patriarchal republic. The Handmaid's Tale magnifies the issue of state control and the fragility of freedom.
Danish composer Roul Ruders has created an opera that will leave audiences on the edge of their seat.
