Lionsgate has announced that a theatrical adaptation of the psychological thriller, The Housemaid, is now in development following the film's worldwide box office success.

Based on the novel by Freida McFadden, the first book in the Housemaid Saga, the story follows Millie Calloway, who takes up a job as a live-in housemaid for the wealthy Winchester family on Long Island. Wife and mother Nina soon begins making her life a living hell, all while covering up the family's dark secret. The Housemaid was adapted into a feature film in 2025, starring Sydney Sweeney and Amanda Seyfried as Millie and Nina, with a sequel based on the second book also in development.
The production is being developed by producers Simon Friend and Hanna Osmolska of Melting Pot. This will mark yet another of Lionsgate's stage ventures based on their films, following The Hunger Games: On Stage and Dirty Dancing, with a musical adaptation of La La Land also in the works.
Bekah Brunstetter is attached to write the stage version. Brunsetter received a Tony Award nomination for writing the book of The Notebook alongside Ingrid Michaelson. Her other screen work includes This Is Us, Maid, and American Gods. Brunsetter said, "I’m extremely excited to dig into The Housemaid’s incredibly universal themes of jealousy, the pain of desire, and the traumas that connect us.”
More details about dates, venue, and casting will be revealed in due course.
