The Truth tells the story of two married couples caught in a tangled web of adultery and deception. Michel, a middle-aged businessman, is married to Laurence, but has been having a seven-month affair with Alice, the wife of his best friend Paul. Things come to a head when the couples spend a night away in a hotel. In between drinks and tennis matches and loaded conversations, the question of who knows what brings these characters into a sweltering climax of paranoia and manipulation.
This wickedly funny and elegantly crafted revival, translated by Christopher Hampton and directed by Lindsay Posner (A View From the Bridge, Noises Off), opened to wide-spread critical acclaim earlier this summer. Read our review of The Truth.
The original cast of the Apollo Theatre run will reunite for The Truth's 2027 run at the Theatre Royal Haymarket, with Tony Award-nominated Stephen Mangan (BBC 1, The Split) as Michel, comedy icon Ardal O’Hanlon (Channel 4, Father Ted; Netflix, How To Get To Heaven From Belfast) as Paul, Sarah Hadland (BBC 1, Miranda; Strictly Come Dancing; ITV, The Job Lot) as Alice, and double Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee as Laurence.
The Truth will play a strictly limited 12-week season at the Theatre Royal Haymarket from Thursday 29 July 2027.
