Starring:
Stephen Mangan, Sarah Hadland, Ardal O'Hanlon, Janie Dee
Stephen Mangan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Sarah Hadland and Janie Dee are set to star in a West End revival of Florian Zeller's razor-sharp and darkly witty marital comedy about truth, lies, and everything in between. Don't miss the star-studded revival of this Olivier-nominated play when it comes to the Apollo Theatre for a limited run from 9th June.
Why you should watch The Truth
- Audiences and critics alike have loved The Truth, which has been praised as “a pitch-perfect hit” (The Observer), “a razor-sharp marital comedy” (The Times), and “a funny and devious must-see” (The Guardian).
- This new revival features a star-studded and dazzlingly talented cast that are sure to do justice to this dizzying story, including Stephen Mangan, Ardal O'Hanlon, Sarah Hadland and Janie Dee.
- With twists and turns, secrets and lies, wonderfully complex characters, and biting humour, The Truth will leave you on the edge of your seat from start to finish, making it a thrilling theatrical experience.
What is The Truth about?
The Truth tells the story of two married couples caught in a tangled web of adultery and deception. Michel, a middle-aged businessman, is married to Laurence, but has been having a seven month affair with Alice, the wife of his best friend Paul. things come to a head when the couples spend a night away in a hotel. Laurence grows suspicious, and Michel becomes paranoid that Paul knows about the affair. In between drinks and tennis matches and loaded conversations, the question of who knows what brings these characters into a sweltering climax of paranoia and manipulation.
From Oscar-winning writer Florian Zeller comes a wickedly entertaining comedy about trust, loyalty, and secrets, in a star-studded and highly anticipated revival of an Olivier-nominated play about the lies we tell the people we love and the ones we tell ourselves. Directed by Lindsay Posner (A View From the Bridge), The Truth is adapted by Christopher Hampton (Les Liaisons Dangereuses) and returns after last being staged a decade ago at Wyndham's Theatre, following a record-breaking run at the Menier Chocolate Factory. Tony Award-nominated Stephen Mangan (The Split, Episodes) returns to the London stage following his acclaimed performance in Mike Bartlett's Unicorn at the Garrick Theatre. He's joined by comedy icon Ardal O'Hanlon (Father Ted, How to Get to Heaven From Belfast), Sarah Hadland (Miranda, The Job Lot), and double Olivier Award-winner Janie Dee (Follies). The Truth is Zeller's most electrifying comedy achievement, packed with psychological insight and biting humour.
Don't miss this razor-sharp, bitingly witty marital comedy when it returns to the West End after a decade.

Very clever and amusing. The play was very witty, and cleverly constructed. There were many laughs along the way. The acting was of a very high standard with the exception of Ardal O’Hanlan, who was extremely wooden in his delivery.

“Stephen Mangan Shines in a Clever and Hilarious Comedy”A thoroughly enjoyable and very funny production with excellent acting and a clever, engaging story. The Truth explores infidelity, lies and the increasingly blurred line between honesty and deception, creating plenty of humour while also making the audience question what is really true. Stephen Mangan is outstanding, carrying the entire 90-minute performance with great energy, timing and comic skill. His stage presence is impressive, and he keeps the audience captivated throughout. The rest of the cast — Sarah Hadland, Ardal O’Hanlon and Janie Dee — also deliver excellent performances and complement him perfectly. The set design is simple but highly effective, allowing for quick scene changes that keep the pace of the play moving smoothly. A witty, fast-paced and brilliantly performed comedy — highly recommended for anyone looking for an entertaining evening of theatre.

Buy a drink and take it in with you...... but go for a P before the show...... there's no chance later. As an elderly man......... this is more important than it used to be! Tee hee!

The play was well written, well cast, well acted and above all funny! I loved the format of no interval and an early end. It seemed to help the narrative develop without trying to second guess anything. I would highly recommend you see it 🤗

The TrithThe show would have been much better if only they would’ve taken care of the sound system. We were sitting in the balcony on the last seat and for the first two episodes we could barely hear what was being said.. you truly need to install speakers in the balcony so that whilst people cannot see the stage in full because of the bars which are right in the eye of the stage at least one can hear the sound of what is being said. Otherwise it was good.
