Robin Hood in London

Starring:

Charlie Stemp, Julian Clary, Nigel Havers, Paul Zerdin, Jane McDonald, Marisha Wallace, Rob Madge, Tosh Wanogho-Maud

Grab tickets to enjoy the London Palladium’s world famous festive panto! This time it’s Robin Hood, a spellbinding adventure dating back to the 1300s, set in enchanting Sherwood Forest and starring the legendary outlaw who stole from the rich and gave to the poor.

Why you should book Robin Hood tickets

Everyone loves the annual Christmas London Palladium Pantomime, and this is its ninth year. Robin Hood stars the brilliant Julian Clary as the swashbuckling outlaw himself and cruise ship singer queen Jane McDonald as Maid Marion. They’re joined by Olivier award nominees Marisha Wallace (Celebrity Big Brother, Guys & Dolls, Dream Girls) playing the evil Sheriff of Nottingham and Charlie Stemp (Kiss Me Kate, Crazy for You) as Alan-A-Dale.

The dazzling cast also stars Tosh Wanoghu-Maud (The Drifters Girl) as Little John, comic artist Rob Madge (My Son’s A Queer - But What Can You Do?) as the Spirit of Sherwood, Paul Zerdin (Muppet Treasure Island) as Will Scarlet and Nigel Havers (Private Lives) as Friar Tuck. The whole magical kit and caboodle comes from Michael Harrison, who always directs and produces the annual Palladium Panto for Crossroads Pantomimes.

Prepare for a spectacle!

The venue’s festive panto is always a big hit and this time around it’s set to be even bigger and better. It’s a brand-new production of Robin Hood, being billed as a jaw-dropping spectacle with awesome special effects. Some say it’ll give the annual Palladium Pantomime a totally new dimension.

The production has set design by Mark Walters, costumes by Hugh Durrant, choreography by Karen Bruce, visual special effects by The Twins FX, lighting by Ben Cracknell, sound by Matt Peploe for Gareth Owen Sound, and composition and orchestrations by Gary Hind.

An ancient story never forgotten

Whether you’re new to the legend or know it well, this story goes back a very long way. The earliest fragment of a script of a Robin Hood play is called ‘Robyn Hod and the Shryff off Notyngham', dating back to the 1470s, but it’s thought to date back further than that, perhaps to the 1300s.

In 1585, while plague raged in Edinburgh, King James VI enjoyed a version of a Robin Hood play at Dirleton Castle, produced by the Earl of Arran. During the 1800s it was adapted for children. There was a 1922 film version starring Douglas Fairbanks. In 1973 the animated Disney movie featured Robin Hood as a fox, and the 1976 British-American film Robin and Marian, starring Sean Connery as Robin Hood and Audrey Hepburn as Maid Marian, scored another box office hit. More than five hundred years and over 50 TV series and movies later, the legend lives on.

Sadly, there’s no evidence there was ever an outlaw called Robin Hood. He’s probably fictional. But the panto is a real-life family treat you won’t want to miss.
