About Alegria - Cirque du Soleil Tickets
Alegria - Cirque du Soleil description
This is circus - but not as we know it. It’s sheer magic, and the spectacle of it all will take your breath away.
Alegria has been thrilling people for more than 25 years, and this time around the all-time Cirque du Soleil classic has been beautifully re-imagined for a new generation to fall in love with.
An unforgettable Grammy-nominated soundtrack leads the way as the performers carry our spectacular acrobatics, in totally surreal costumes, against amazing sets, all with lovely playful humour. Expect a touching and totally immersive experience full of joy and magic, the quintessential Cirque du Soleil spectacle.
The soundtrack is composed by Rene Dupere, who is responsible for the music in previous shows including Mystere and Saltimbanco. The studio album came out in September 1994, and the show won two Felix awards in 1995 for Producer of the Year and Sound Mixer of the Year. The album, which is still hugely popular, sat in the Billboard Music Charts for an impressive 65 weeks.
Cirque du Soleil is a Canadian entertainment company, also the world’s biggest contemporary circus producer. Based in Saint-Michel, it was founded in Baie-Saint-Paul in 1984 by the former street performers Guy Laliberté and Gilles Ste-Croix . Beginning life as a troupe called Les Échassiers – The Stilt Walkers- they toured Quebec from 1979 to 1983. Then, in ’83, a government grant changed everything. Thanks to the Canada Council for the Arts they performed at the 450th anniversary celebrations of Jacques Cartier's voyage to Canada, and the rest is history.
What's the plot of Cirque du Soleil Alegria?
The story, expressed in circus style, concerns a kingdom that has lost its king, revealing the power struggles between the old order and a new, younger generation rich in hope and renewal. Cirque du Soleil Alegria theatre tickets take you to a magical world where the Old Order and the New Order clash. The costumes for the Old Order reflect New York's Golden Age, finely decorated with feathers, lace, beading and more. The New Order represents the youth of tomorrow with agile costumes that are softer and lighter. The tension between the two groups is thrilling.
Alegria takes its name from the Spanish word for joy. It premiered in April 1994 in Montreal and has been performed more than 5000 times, loved by over 14 million people across more than 250 cities. Now it’s your turn, so prepare to be delighted.
