West Side Story Tickets

Conceived by Jerome Robbins and inspired by Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, West Side Story is set in a multiracial blue-collar neighbourhood in Manhattan's Upper West Side in the 1950s. Two street gangs, the white Jets and Puerto Rican Sharks, are engaged in a vicious and bloody gang war over territory. During a dance at the local gym, Tony, former co-founder of the Jets, falls in love with Maria, the sister of the Sharks' leader, Bernardo, setting in motion a story of forbidden love and tragic consequences.

Featuring a book by Arthur Laurents, music by Leonard Bernstein and lyrics by Stephen Sondheim, West Side Story premiered on Broadway in 1957 and has inspired multiple adaptations, revivals, and international productions. With a powerful, heartbreaking score featuring beloved songs such as 'Maria', 'Tonight', and 'America', it's widely considered one of the best and most enduring musicals of all time. Now a brand-new revival is coming to the National Theatre, co-directed by Marianne Elliott and Miranda Cromwell, who previously collaborated on Death of a Salesman, with Robbins' choreography reproduced and adapted by performer and choreographer Julio Monge, who previously worked on the choreography for Steven Spielberg's 2021 film adaptation. This staging in the Olivier Theatre is a golden opportunity for a new generation of audiences to experience this epic story of star-crossed love and violence.
