Consent in London

Consent, by Nina Raine, comes fresh from a massive sell-out run at the National theatre. It just shows there's plenty of life in it yet, with audiences still clamouring for tickets. The Independent has awarded it five stars, the New York Times calls it a 'blistering new play' and the Daily Telegraph says it's tense and entertaining. What's not to like? It's quite simply brilliant.

Justice is the real star of this exceptional play, but is she blind or just blinkered? As the drama behind a contentious legal case between friends unfolds, the female key witness' life couldn't be more different, a world away from those involved. As the truth is unravelled, so do their lives. This is a “tense, entertaining modern-day tragi-comedy”, according to the Daily Telegraph, and it takes a merciless look at the law of the land while at the same time putting contemporary relationships and justice itself on trial.

Nina Raine's previous work includes Tiger Country, and the Olivier-nominated Tribes. Consent already achieved a critically acclaimed sell-out run at the Dorfman Theatre in 2017. It's directed by Roger Michell and it's on at the Harold Pinter theatre for a limited 12 week run.

The cast is just as good as the piece itself, with Claudie Blakley, Stephen Campbell Moore, Heather Craney and Adam James and more taking to the stage. Hildegard Bechtler designed the set and Dinah Collin the costumes, the lighting comes from Rick Fisher, there's music by Kate Whitley, the sound comes from John Leonard and the casting is by Amy Ball.

Who is this show for?
Because this is one heck of a powerful, painful and funny production that examines and depicts sexual violence, it's suitable for people aged over 16.

Review: CONSENT at the Harold Pinter Theatre

Nina Raine's National Theatre success CONSENT has transferred to the West End (until 11th August), and provides playgoers with a plethora of barrister banter and relationship ructions.
