But when one of his romantic conquests ends up in a murder, his arrogance and manipulations begin to catch up with him. Mozart's dark, intense opera is inspired by Don Juan, the notorious Spanish libertine of fiction, who has inspired countless adaptations and retellings of his hedonistic exploits since he first appeared in a 1630 play by Tirso de Molina. Today, the name has become synonymous with any womaniser, making him a delightfully dramatic subject for storytelling.
Kasper Holten's beautiful production brings to life Mozart's darkest opera in a story of debauchery and desire, full of passion, murder, twists, and cutting emotional tension. Stefano Montanari conducts, while acclaimed designer Es Devlin's spectacular visuals blur the boundaries between reality and lies. This blazing production features an all-star cast headlined by Gordon Bintner, alongside Rachel Willis-Sørensen, Aigul Akhmetshina, Roberto Tagliavini and Bogdan Volkov. Mozart's dazzling score will captivate you, filled with beauty and invention, gorgeous arias and dramatic duets.
