Electra/Persona in London
Starring:
Cate Blanchett
This thrilling production blends ancient myth and modern psychology in this fusion of Sophocles’s Electra with Ingmar Bergman's Persona. In Electra, the daughter of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra seeks revenge against her mother for her father’s murder. In Persona, an actress suddenly falls silent during a performance of Electra. What follows is an unsettling, intense encounter between two women, where speech breaks down and the boundaries between self and role give way.
Two-time Academy Award winner Cate Blanchett (The Seagull) returns to the National Theatre to take on this complex, powerful role in a bold new production that explores grief, identity and performance. Directed by Benedict Andrews (A Streetcar Named Desire), it also stars Nina Hoss (The Cherry Orchard), and Ella Lily Hyland (Black Doves). Featuring an original score by Academy Award-winning composer Hildur Guðnadóttir, Electra/Persona is one of London’s most anticipated theatre events of 2026 - a harrowing and unique story that combines the bloody vengeance of a Greek tragedy with a searing exploration of psychology.
Don’t miss your chance to see Cate Blanchett lead this thrilling and scintillating new play.
