This sharp and glamorous comedy is set aboard an ocean liner bound for Paris, and follows the misadventures of two showgirls and best friends, Dorothy Shaw and Lorelei Lee. Lorelei is engaged to the wealthy Gus Esmond Jr, but his father believes she's a gold digger and hires a PI named Ernie Malone to follow the women and report on any bad behaviour. Chaos ensues as Dorothy falls for Ernie while Lorelei sets her sights on a diamond tiara. This wickedly funny Broadway musical opened in 1949, with music by Jule Styne, lyrics by Leo Robin, and a book by Anita Loos and Joseph Fields. It was later adapted into a 1953 film starring Marilyn Monroe as Lorelei and Jane Russell as Dorothy, which quickly became one of the staples of the Golden Age of Hollywood.
Now London audiences can experience this charming, funny story once again in a brand-new concert staging directed and choreographed by Warren Carlyle (Hello, Dolly!, The Music Man), who returns to London for his first production here in more than 25 years. The concert features much-loved songs from the musical like "Diamonds Are a Girl's Best Friend", "A Little Girl from Little Rock", and "Bye Bye Baby", performed by an orchestra of 30 musicians led by Olivier Award winner Alan Williams (Sunset Boulevard, Evita). It stars Tony Award-nominated stage and screen star Megan Hilty (Death Becomes Her, Smash, Wicked, 9 to 5: The Musical) as Lorelei Lee and Olivier Award-nominated actress Rachel Tucker (Wicked, Come From Away, Sunset Boulevard, Thelma and Louise) as Dorothy Shaw.
