I Can't Sing! The X Factor Musical in London

I Can’t Sing! – An hilarious new musical by Harry Hill

Written by the popular British comedian Harry Hill, the winner of three BAFTAs, seven British Comedy Awards and a Golden Rose of Montreux, I Can’t Sing is an affectionate and oddly touching mickey-take of The X Factor, one of the nation’s best loved TV talent shows.

The music and lyrics are written by the seriously talented Steve Brown, who wrote the tunes for Spend, Spend, Spend, Spitting Image and Harry Hill’s TV Burp. And the no-nonsense, straight talking Simon Cowell himself is co-producer, signalling his willingness to have the mickey mercilessly taken out of him… one of the reasons that, underneath all the boos and hisses, TV audiences like and respect the man so much.

I Can’t Sing!, the X Factor Musical, whisks audiences away for a very silly journey through the best and worst of the television talent show, following Chenice, who makes her way right to the top almost by accident, against all the odds and despite herself. The result is one of the funniest shows to take to the West End stage for ages, guaranteed to have you rolling in the aisles, holding your stomach and begging for… less!

Last but by no means least, the supremely talented Sean Foley directs the show, fresh from his success with The Ladykillers and The Play What I Wrote, increasingly a name to be reckoned with in theatreland. You will never look at the TV show in the same way again – it’s simply priceless!

I Can’t Sing! - The story

Chenice’s dad has an iron lung. It stops TV signals getting through to their home, which means Chenice has never seen The X Factor. But before long she will find herself the star of the show. Yes, it’s very funny, but the show takes an affectionate look at the television hit, providing an unusual and entertaining look behind the scenes at a series that has stolen the hearts of a nation. Add a side-splitting singing dog and a warbling hunchback and you get the picture – a real comedy romp with a big heart.

fantastic show

the show was excellent throw out the price of the drinks inside was very pricey and our seats must have been the worst in the theatre we were sat at the very top of the theatre next to a walkway with a safety hand rail right in the line of vision so i would advise not to book seats with restricted veiwing

Show was cancelled after I booked my tickets, got refund but would question why you then send me a request to rate it - rubbing salt in the wound?

I Can't Sing...but I had a really enjoyable evening!

Great entertainment. Ridiculous it is coming off so early, maybe it needs more publicity or a perhaps a 'name', although the cast were really great.

Fresh and funny

Light entertainment with humour and great singing. A couple of uses of bad language which stopped it being perfect.

Good, lighthearted fun

This was a good, fun show. Don't expect anything too highbrow as you won't be getting it! It was enjoyable throughout with some very funny moments. If you like Harry Hill, you will love this show.

Don't bother going

Apart from a bit of slapstick this show has little going for it other than a good strong singer in the lead role. Otherwise it was dreadful.

Don't be a sheep - see this show!

I don't normally leave reviews but the number of empty seats at the Palladium the other night prompted me to put in a plea on behalf of this show. It is very funny, has good songs and great singers - that's what you want from a musical isn't it? I have no idea why people aren't going to see this show as my daughter and I (and everyone else in the theatre) really enjoyed it and gave the hugely talented and likeable cast a well deserved standing ovation at the end. Go and see it and make your own mind up - I am sure you wont be disappointed.

Harry Hill Wackiness Plus Great Tunes

Two hours of absolutely bonkers entertainment but thoroughly enjoyable. Some of the humour is a bit hit and miss, and the first half is possibly stronger than the second, but the finally is surprising, and stunning. It does help if you know something about X Factor, otherwise you may miss some of the nuances, but there's enough verbal wit and slapstick to keep non afficianados entertained.
